Director Ho-Kyung KIM

The Floating Infrastructure Research Center(FLORA) was launched in 2023 with the goal of building advanced construction infrastructure utilizing marine space. Surrounded by seas on three sides, Korea has primarily developed fixed offshore structures due to typhoons and high waves. However, as technological advancements and industrial demands increase, the potential and necessity for floating infrastructure are gaining significant attention.

FLORA is working on developing core technologies to ensure the safety and usability of floating infrastructure over the next five years, until 2027. In particular, we are focusing on modular floating unit expansion and connection technologies, exploring various applications such as floating bridges. The technologies developed will be widely applied to transportation and energy infrastructure facilities, including floating cities, offshore wind turbine, small modular reactors, and vertiports.

We sincerely look forward to your interest and cooperation.
